Photograph: the sky over Belltall above the Conca de Barberà
Dimensions variable

This page reads to the right. It does not go down: it traverses.

The background is the sky over Belltall from one spot, at the magic hour, the best view of the Conca de Barberà at the best time. Moving forward makes the day go by: from the blue of dawn, through the orange light, to the night that falls on CONTACT. The view was not chosen for being beautiful: it is my mother's favourite, and she has been part of Team Ona since before Team Ona existed. She holds fan card number 1. The page begins by looking where she looks.

The orange of everything you can press is the orange of that light, it did not come from a colour chart. And the stones on the buttons are Belltall stone, drawn from a real one at home.

The rope across the top bar is not decoration: it is the path the page follows. It pays out as you move, the way rope is paid out to a climber, running through the clips that anchor BLOG, THE PROJECT, PARTNERS and CONTACT. Each clip lights up as you reach it. Knowing where you are should not depend on seeing well.

R1, R2, R3 and R4 are not sections: they are belays, the points where, climbing, you stop, you anchor yourself and you wait for whoever is coming up behind. Between one belay and the next, you traverse. And a traverse is not only a way of climbing sideways: it is what living with a visual impairment is, and what this project is, which does not go in a straight line either.

If the rope reaches the top, it is not down to one person. Only thanks to the people who come with us can we reach the very top! That is why PARTNERS is not a row of logos in the footer: it is a section carrying the same weight as the others, with a belay of its own. This page is also a recognition of them, and of everyone who walks alongside us.

And there is a part you cannot see, the part that took the most work: here, nothing that is looked at was paid for with what is heard. Every contrast is measured, every target can be pressed, every image can be listened to, and what a screen reader tells you is exactly what someone looking at the page sees. There is not a beautiful version and an accessible version. There is an inclusive one.

My thanks to Mike, my partner, who walks with me in the everyday of my life and especially in the OnamCorda project, since he is its CEO.
